Changelog (classic template)

*Update* – Theme 1 – V2.7

Happy Easter! The Easter bunny has brought a few more changes to the dashboard of your SurgeryWeb dashboards, see below for the list of amendments/fixes in this release:

NewTitle Background Colour fields – You can now change the background colour of the “Opening Times” and “Useful Links” titles in the sidebar of your websites, the default is blue but you can change this in “Customise your website” > “Opening Times”/”Useful Links”.

AmendmentColoured Tiles – The coloured tiles screen has now been split in to 3 sections using tabs, the first tab is the 7 Core Tiles which can be customised and disabled/enabled accordingly but not added to or removed, the second tab is the new NHS Choices A-Z Conditions Widget which was introduced in V2.6, and the third tab is for your additional tiles for which there is no limit to how many you can add.

AmendmentAdditional Tiles – An “Enabled/Disabled” switch has been added to the Additional Tiles to match the Core tiles, so you don’t need to remove a tile if you no longer wish to use it, you can simply disable it to be used again at a later date.

Bug fixCore Tiles – Some Practices found the ability to add new tiles in the Core Tiles section, Core tiles have their icons hard coded in to the theme as they were designed specifically for their purposes, and new Core tiles would not have any icon associated with them hence you should not be able to add or remove these tiles, this has been resolved.

Bug fixSticky Posts – There was an issue when making a news post “sticky” (so it remains at the top of the news items) where it was appearing at the top of Latest News and also the News Archive section (so appearing twice), this has now been resolved and sticky news posts will only appear at the top of the Latest News.

Coming soon:

In the next update, there will be a search field for your website visitors to search your website for something specific.

We are also looking in to “QR Codes” and what information your patients may want to see easily if scanning a QR code from your website. (If you don’t know what a QR code is, it is a square black and white ‘barcode’ image that can be scanned using a QR reader app on a smartphone, and by scanning this image it can do one of many possible actions such as loading a webpage/app, saving a contact, downloading an image/file etc..)

*Update* – Theme 1 – V2.6

Good afternoon all

The latest website update was deployed over the weekend and has now been received by all Practices, this update contains the following changes/additions:

New – NHS Choices “Find local services” widget – NHS Choices have recently redeveloped all of their ‘syndicated content’ feeds to make it easier for developers to embed these tools in to their websites, and I personally think they look great.

Addition – ‘favicon’ – We have added a simple logo (blue square with white cross inside) which is shown when the Practice websites are bookmarked in a browser or saved on the home screen of a mobile device.

Amendment – The ‘Customisable Options’ menu has been renamed ‘Customise your Website’

Amendment – The ‘Sidebar Features’ submenu has been renamed ‘Coloured Tiles’

Amendment – The Coloured Tiles page has been updated to make the fields more ‘visual’, it is now easier to see what tiles are enabled/disabled and can easily be toggled using new buttons rather than a checkbox. The enable/disable field is now visible when the tile options are shrunk where previously only the tile title field was visible. You are also now able to set a different colour for text and icons on Additional Tiles.

New – NHS Choices A-Z Conditions widget – We have created a new tile (situated between the Core and Additional Tiles) for the new NHS Choices Conditions widget, which when clicked loads the widget in a pop-up where site users can find articles on any condition that is available on the NHS Choices website. This tile is disabled for all active Practices as of 9th March 2018 (simply because some Practices have created their own tiles for this which link to the page on the NHS Choices website and I didn’t want to amend this without prior permission) so it will need enabled via Customise your Website > Coloured Tiles. Any new Practices who sign up after this date will have the tile enabled by default.

*Update* – Theme 1 – V2.5

Well you guys may have been preparing for Christmas and cooking your roasties, but at SurgeryWeb we were coding away to update all of your websites with the following amendments, new features and bug fixes:

Fix – Map custom marker – Tweaked a setting that was preventing the custom marker image from displaying on the Location map.

Fix – Security Settings – We have been tightening our security alot recently due to some worldwide brute force attacks on Content Management Systems, but we noticed that when a user entered a wrong username only once then their IP address was temporarily blocked, so this restriction has been removed, we have also removed the auto-log out after 60 minutes rule.

Amendment – Link functionality has been added to the Rotating Gallery Slideshow on the home page so that images can now be linked to a) Pages or Posts on your website or b) External websites, some Practices requested this for the purpose of displaying NHS related images/campaigns and then linking these to websites relating to each campaign.

New Feature – You may have noticed when you logged in to your dashboard but all Practice websites are now using Google Analytics to track visitor statistics, there is a new widget in your dashboard which will give you some great insight as to how many visits your website gets per day, week, month etc. and more.

Coming soon: New NHS Choices A-Z Conditions Widget and an updated NHS Choices Find Local Services widget, just awaiting the release of these from NHS Choices, expected in the new year.

Security Update – 5/12/17

Good morning all

So once again, apologies if anyone experience any downtime yesterday but it was imperative that we rolled out a few additional security measures to all sites due to an ‘increasing memory load’ on the server causing it to become unresponsive.

To prevent this spike in memory usage in the future, we have implemented a “maximum failed login attempts” limit, where an IP address will be blocked after 3 failed attempts, there is also a limit of how many connections 1 IP address can have open at any one time, and there are other Firewall and spam preventatives in place.

We thank you for your patience.

Adrian – SurgeryWeb

*Security Update* – 04/12/2017

Some users may experience intermittent downtime this morning while we work with our server team to apply an update across all sites, this is due to an increasing memory load on the server causing performance issues.

We will update you further as soon as this is complete.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Adrian

*Update* – Theme 1 – V2.4

In this update, we introduce an exciting new feature which has been request by a few Practices but will be enjoyed by many. Email Management and bulk sending.  You will see a new link from your dashboard, “Email Management” and clicking this will tell you how to log in to your new Email Management dashboard.

Within your new dashboard you can create mailing lists, perhaps you want one for your PPG, one for your Practice Staff, perhaps one for local colleagues. You can also create mailing templates if there are particular email campaigns you have in mind which you would send on a regular basis. Finally, you can create campaigns, using either a template or an adhoc email, select what list you’d like to send your email to and away you go.

The system will send 8 emails per second and there is no limit as to how many emails you can send, (there is to us, but you’ll never max that out!)

Other changes are as follows:

Bug Fix – Original Patient Survey wouldn’t let you proceed to step 2 without answering Q3 about why you weren’t able to see a Doctor, even if you answered that you WERE able to in Q2, Q3 is now no longer ‘required’.

Addition – We have added styling properties for the password field if password protecting a page to be accessed only by internal staff.

Addition – New “Email Management” link in dashboard.

Coming soon: We will be looking at the Patient Surveys as we would like to give you the ability to publish results on the website easier, we will also be looking at the new NHS Choice Syndication tools to integrate some health articles in to the website, finally we will be looking at including some additional forms such as Travel Questionnaire and PHQ9 Depression score.

*Update* – Theme 1 – V2.3

Thank you all once again for your feature requests, I have now implemented some of these in to V2.3 which has just been rolled out to all sites, detils of this update are as follows:

New feature – Home page rotating gallery. If you edit your home page, you will now see a tick box to select if you want to display a rotating slideshow gallery on your home page, when you tick this box a series of image fields will appear below for you to upload as many images as you want to display. When published, this will display a gallery that will slide every few seconds on a loop.

Amendment – Social Media Icons. Practices who have social media channels could display icons in the footer to link to those channels (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc..), I have now amended this section to include 5 different sets of icons to choose from, and also a range slider for you to select what size you want the icons to be, it starts at 32px which is the size the original icons were and can be increased right up to 72px. The icons are also much higher quality than previous.

Amendment – When submitting any form on the website, the “Submit” button changes it’s working to “Sending…” to notify the user that the form is actually submitting before the confirmation message appears, this is mainly beneficial for those with poor internet connections that may have to wait for the confirmation message.

Amendment – 3rd Level Navigation – I have added styling to the theme to allow for a 3rd level navigation, so in your main menu where you can have sub-menus dropping down (2nd level links), those sub-menus can also now contain sub-sub-pages and if you hover on a 2nd level link, the 3rd level menu pops out to the right hand side, I have also styled this so that any 2nd level links to the right hand side of the menu which have sub-menus, these pop out to the left so they don’t go off the side of the page. An example of this is may be a main menu link of “Health Advice” with a 2nd level sub-link of “Family Health” and under this could be a 3rd level sub-sub-link of “Child Vaccinations”.

Bug fix – When submitting forms on longer pages, sometimes the page would jump down when displaying the confirmation message and the user would need to scroll up to see this, the confirmation message should now always be in view.

*Update* – Theme 1 – V2.2

Dear all

I have been working on a few little bits which bring some minor changes to your website features and these have been rolled out to all Practices over the weekend, details are as follows:

Addition: There is a new CQC Widget field for the home page, simply Edit your home page to see the field and you can paste in the embed code from the CQC website to display your Practices own rating, there is a link to the CQC instructions page or you can watch the SurgeryWeb screencast here. Have a look at the demo website to see how this would look on your home page.

Amendment: The ‘Useful Links’ section has had a tweak, so if you add a link to a website but don’t upload a graphic to accompany this then the Title will show instead.

Amendment: You can now link additional tiles to Documents, for example one Practice wanted to link a tile to a poster about the Shingles vaccination so patients can view/download it, this is now possible.

Amendment: When you try to remove a tile by clicking the minus on the right hand side of the fields (additional and core, but please do not remove core tiles!), you will now be prompted to confirm that you wish to remove it.

Bug fix: When re-arranging core tiles, the icons where staying in the same position and weren’t going with the tile, e.g. if you swap the ‘FFT’ and ‘Update Details’ tiles around, the ‘Update Details’ would show the little people icon and ‘FFT’ would show the index cards, this has now been fixed.

Bug fix: When selecting what a core tile links to, no matter what option was selected (link, form, page etc..) the label for the next field would display “link”, this has now been corrected to show it’s respective label.

Bug fix: When linking additional tiles to external websites, the link field was not always editable and appeared ‘disabled’ to some users, this is now fixed.

** IMPORTANT ** – Core Update

I have recently discovered that an update in the core ‘Content Management System’ included a newer version of the Visual Content Editor which no longer supports Internet Explorer versions 8, 9 and 10.

The current release of Internet Explorer is version 11 and this has been around for 4 years, Microsoft also stopped supporting older versions of this browser from around the same time, so nobody should really be using a version of Internet Explorer previous to 11 (mainly for security as new patches have not been applied for at least 4 years).

According to netmarketshare.com, only 1/6% of the global population are still using this browser, with over 45% using either IE11 or Chrome.

If you are stuck on an old version of Intenet Explorer for any reason (as I know some NHS Wirral Practices are using IE8 due to other local applications) then please let me know and if you are affected by this, I can re-install the previous version of the Content Management System for you, but I would strongly recommend that you a) upgrade your version of Internet Explorer, b) install an alternative browser or c) contact your local IT department for further guidance.

*Update* Theme 1 – v2.1

  • Home page “Latest News” feature will now only display after your first post has been published rather than display “No news at present” as it did previously.
  • Home page “News Archive” feature will now only display if there are 2 or more published posts rather that display “No more news” as it did previously.
  • Customisable Options > Practice Details – I have introduced a “Third line” field which enables you to choose whether to display text, a link, or an email address in the header, to the left of the NHS logo, the first line will still display your Practice telephone number and second line will still display your Practice fax number (if entered).
  • Customisable Options > Sidebar Features – I have amended the ‘additional tiles’ section to allow you to select what type of link you want your tile to have, your tiles can now link to either a) an internal page or post, b) a contact form or c) an external website.
  • Amended the link to the SurgeryWeb website in the footer, previously http:// and now https://

Please do keep your feature requests coming, they are much appreciated.
